On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Kigali, Rwanda, became the epicenter of East Africa’s law enforcement efforts as the 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) has began. The event will gather police officers and leaders from across the region to discuss critical issues surrounding cross-border security and cooperation. The theme for this year’s meeting, “Strengthening Regional Law Enforcement Cooperation,” reflects the growing need for collaboration in combating emerging criminal threats.

On Thursday, amidst the chaos of the wildfires, an aerial firefighting plane collided with a drone flying over the restricted airspace of the Palisades Fire. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident, stating that the firefighting aircraft managed to land safely but was grounded thereafter. The FAA has launched an investigation into this unauthorized drone activity, emphasizing that flying drones in restricted zones during such emergencies can critically delay fire response efforts, potentially costing lives.

Discussions focused on current challenges, future opportunities, and the importance of ensuring food systems are resilient and sustainable to address future crises.
