Corrections Policy
How we handle errors and keep our reporting accurate
Accuracy is the foundation of trustworthy journalism. Despite our best efforts, errors can occur. When they do, we are committed to correcting them promptly, transparently, and openly. This policy explains how we handle corrections at African Updates.
Our Commitment
We take responsibility for the accuracy of everything we publish. When we get something wrong, we fix it — and we tell our readers we have done so. We do not quietly delete or alter published articles to hide mistakes.
What We Correct
We correct all significant factual errors, including:
Incorrect names, dates, figures, locations, or titles; misquotations or misattributed statements; inaccurate descriptions of events; and any factual claim that is shown to be wrong. We also review and address misleading headlines, missing context, or unclear wording when brought to our attention.
Minor issues such as typographical errors or grammatical slips may be corrected without a formal note, as they do not affect the meaning or accuracy of the reporting.
How Corrections Are Made
When we correct a significant error, we update the article and add a clear note indicating what was changed and when. Our approach is transparency: readers should be able to see that a correction was made and understand what it involved. For substantial errors, the correction note appears with the article so the record is honest and visible.
Where an error is serious enough to change the substance of a story, we may also update the headline or publish a separate clarification.
How to Request a Correction
If you believe we have published an error, we want to hear from you. Please email us at info@africanupdates.com with:
The title of the article and, if possible, a link to it; a clear description of the error; and any supporting information or sources that help us verify the correct facts.
We review every correction request. If we confirm an error, we correct it as quickly as we reasonably can. If we determine that the reporting was accurate, we will explain our reasoning.
