EEAR Rwanda Opens Modern Commercial Building in Kagarama, Strengthening Church Development Efforts

The Eglise Evangélique des Amis au Rwanda (EEAR) has officially inaugurated a new commercial building in Kagarama, Kicukiro District, in Kigali on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The infrastructure, valued at approximately 2.5 billion Rwandan francs, marks a significant step in the church’s strategy to promote financial sustainability and support its mission across the country.

The inauguration ceremony gathered church leaders, believers, and government officials, including Kicukiro District Executive Administrator Monique Huss, alongside bishops from different EEAR regions.

Shortly after the opening, a handover ceremony took place during the Sunday service at EEAR Kanombe parish. The event marked the official transition of the church’s spokesperson role from Reverend Aron Mupenda to Reverend Jean Paul Nsekanabo.

Reflecting on his tenure, Rev. Mupenda expressed satisfaction with the progress made under his leadership, especially in infrastructure and long-term planning.

“I am happy with where I leave the church today. We have laid a strong foundation for growth and development,” he said.

He also highlighted ongoing construction projects of churches in different regions, including Musanze, Rubavu, Bugesera, Kamembe, Rugarama, and Kayonza, emphasizing durability and future generations.

“We are building strong churches that will serve even our grandchildren,” he added.

Taking on his new role, Rev. Nsekanabo described the appointment as a call to serve with faith and responsibility. He emphasized teamwork and God’s guidance as key to his mission.

“I am grateful for the trust given to me. With God’s help and unity, we will continue to move forward,” he said.

He explained that while preaching remains central, EEAR also focuses on community transformation through education, peacebuilding, and social support. The church collaborates with partners such as Compassion International to assist vulnerable children with school fees and welfare programs.

“Our work goes beyond the pulpit. We support families, promote peace, and invest in education,” he noted.

Under his leadership, the church plans to strengthen support for vulnerable communities, including access to health insurance (Mutuelle de Santé) and economic empowerment initiatives through development programs.

EEAR Rwanda currently has over 10,000 followers and runs a network of schools, including six secondary schools, seven primary schools, and fifteen nursery schools nationwide.

The impact of EEAR’s mission is visible in the lives it transforms. Immaculée Kabibi, a resident of Karembure in Kicukiro, shared her journey after returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The church stood with me in my hardest time. They helped educate my children and gave me a home. Today, I live with dignity,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Eric, is currently in Senior Five and receives full school support from the church.

“I want to complete my studies and help others in the future,” he said.

The newly opened commercial building is expected to generate income that will support church activities, social programs, and future projects. Church leaders say this initiative reflects a growing vision of self-reliance and long-term impact.

As EEAR continues to expand both spiritually and socially, the Kagarama project stands as a symbol of progress, resilience, and commitment to serving both the church and the wider community.
