Rwanda: RCS Holds 6th Women's Convention, Focuses on Professionalism and Digital Respect
The Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) convened its sixth annual women’s convention this Thursday on 28th august 2025. The event, held in Kigali, focused on the theme “Digital Dignity: Upholding Professionalism and Gender Respect.”
The convention brought together women from across the RCS. The aim was to discuss development and address challenges in the workplace.
The Commissioner General of RCS Evariste Murenzi, highlighted Rwanda’s global leadership in promoting gender equality. “Rwanda stands as a global example for its commitment to gender promotion, and the RCS is fully aligned with this national vision,” CG Murenzi stated. He shared that women currently constitute 28.5% of the RCS workforce, a figure the service is determined to increase to surpass the government’s target of 30%.

CG Murenzi emphasized that achieving gender parity requires a collaborative effort from both men and women, with women often needing to lead the charge. The convention, he noted, was specifically designed to empower women to discuss their professional growth and confront everyday obstacles. He also extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Interior Security and development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), for their invaluable support.
Dr. Vincent Biruta, the Minister of Interior, also attended the convention. He praised President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame for his role in promoting women’s rights in Rwanda. He commended the RCS for its proactive approach in organizing the convention.

The Minister challenged the attendees to embrace the digital revolution and use technology as a tool to advance the nation. He recommended that the RCS develop a strategic plan to provide its female staff with the necessary technological training. “Technology is a powerful instrument today, and you must not be left behind,” Biruta concluded, reinforcing the necessity of continuous learning to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving world.
